oh errol personnel update

August 25th, 2008

It’s not really a surprise that following his arrest, overnight incarceration, bail, and allegations of domestic violence and lying to police, we’ve had to stand down Intern Greg Bird indefinitely.

It’s true that we’ll miss his around-the-office initiatives, like Meat Pie Monday (also Meat Pie Tues-Fri), and obviously if it turns out the allegations are incorrect we’ll be happy to have him back.  But we are also firmly opposed to violence of the non-fictional variety, and to violence against women in particular.

We’re all quite tacken aback, to be honest, and we don’t want to mess around or send mixed messages about this kind of stuff.  And we know you don’t really want to read it anyway.  We have no idea what happened and blogging about it would just be tacky.

So if you’re looking for any more Greg Bird info, we’re sorry but we’re not going to be able to give you any until at least the 8th of October (when he’s due in court).  Yes we love a bit of harmless gossip, but we’re not in the business of rustling up defamation suits, so we’re leaving all the allegations and the scandal well alone.

We are happy to announce though, that after John John made himself a Captain’s hat from a sheet of newspaper and pulled us all in for a group rendition of ‘Love will Keep us Together’, he accepted a promotion to an internship.

We’re also super excited that little Lachlan Coote – who, sadly, has quite a lot of time on his hands at the moment – accepted our offer of a regular work experience gig.

Well, to be exact, he said he’d have to ask his mum and dad, but we’re taking that as a yes.

And because when it rains it pours – the sad day is coming when we have to say goodbye to our beloved Intern Brownie.  He stopped non-speaks with me long enough today to tell us all he’s leaving us to put all his efforts into the Dragons’ finals campaign and into packing up all his favourite knitted sweaters for his move to the UK.

In his place, we have Reni Maitua joining us as an intern and starting next week.  He’s agreed in his contract to cease all gang-related activity and we think he’ll come through.  Stay tuned to see the new interns in action.

Sending lots of love, and all of our thoughts to Kate Milligan.

Poor Kate Milligan. That is one scary fucking thing to have happen to you! I hope she makes a full recovery.

I hope, if everything turns out to be true that is, the NRL do the sensible thing and ban him completely.

cronulla have already stood him down, but I don’t know if/when the nrl get involved in these things. it seemed quick re: todd carney, but it seems so slow for everything else.

  • Jessica

Intern Reni Maitua! I’m so giddy i can barely type.

*starts madly cleaning her cubicle and stripping it of all ill-gotten photos and JL ♥ RM 4 EVA scrawlings*

Good post. I’m terrified of someone stabbing something sharp in/near my eyes. I feel for the poor girl. And IF he did it, he should be fired from everything, and he shouldn’t get any more meat pies. Ever.

  • bart

Hoping Kate makes a good recovery.

I think on balance Reni + Coote + John > Bird + Brownie + John? Although Brownie probably is the most intelligent of that crew…

So the support staff situation should be cooking with gas again in the Errol office come next week!

  • Hazy

I wish Kate all the best and hope she makes a speedy recovery. I am also hoping the reports of her possibly losing an eye are really off the mark and aren’t true. the poor girl, i think she doesn’t even have any family here to help/support her .

I really hope the NRL take a proactive stance on this. i think RL has always had issues with players attitudes and actions towards women and i hope something good can come from this alleged situation.

  • Hazy

P.S. If you have an opening for an intern in the Fashion/Grooming department, Cooper Cronk would be very interested, or so i hear…

  • http://www.oherrol.com lozzy

nono me and cooper cronk are still not speaking. neither of us can remember why.

  • adam

what a way to throw ya life down the drain, not only is it career ender but he will more than likely have to spend some fair time in gaol. Boy would he do it tuff in there too, firstly hitting a girl but then to try and blame it on ya mate…ohh snapp. and he’s not exactly someone who will just blend in either.

you wouldn’t get a QLD player doing this sort of thing!!

  • Germaine Greer

Good for you for actually posting on it, but why the censorship?

I don’t understand – you guys love to criticise other personalities and bloggers for their positions but brook no criticism of your own efforts. I’m not being offensive, so why the the censorship?

You explain your site away as “tongue in cheek” but Sam Newman could easily take the same defense.

Why so scared of a debate?

  • http://www.oherrol.com sassy

germaine it was actually me who moderated your comment … I didn’t post it because we can’t run the risk of anything on our site that might be defamatory (like talking about this whole bird case as though it’s fact). it wasn’t cause I thought you were being offensive or critical at all.

you’re right our site is very tongue in cheek, and the reason we made this post is to let you all know that this isn’t gonna be in any of our lighthearted posts. some things just aren’t for making jokes about, you know?

we feel pretty strongly about things like this so we’re glad you agree! that’s why we had to take the time to make a special post to fire an (imaginary) intern. which seems ridiculous, but what else could we do?

you mentioned sam newman, do you think that we’re offensive or insensitive? are you offended?

Scared of debate? What’s to debate?

As for being scared, you are the one posting anonymously.

did anyone see the front page of the Herald today? right above the big greg bird story theres a huge banner saying SYDNEY’S BEST PIES.

    im dead.

maybe they’ve started laying out the paper using the same online ad software they use on smh.com.au

every time I go on there’s something like a story about someone dying in a horrible sea accident right next to a giant ad for romantic sailing tours in the whitsundays.
